The Pet Salon FAQ

Q: Do you use tranquilizers?
A: NO! Absolutely not, only a licensed vet should tranquilize a pet. We do not recommend that you get your pet tranquilized as they fight it and it only makes things worse. If we can’t handle your pet there will be no charge.

Q: I have a hard time combing my pet. Can I put him in a short clip?
A: Yes, it is better for both of you if your pet is kept in what is called a short pet clip. We have many photos of pet clips for you to view.

Q: How often should I have my pet groomed?
A: Groom dogs who have their hair cut in particular clips such as Poodles, Cockers, Lhasa Apsos, Shih Tzus, Bischons etc. should be groomed every 4-6 weeks, 8 weeks max. Bath dogs such as Labs, Shepherds, Collies, etc. and cats should be groomed every 10-12 weeks, 16 weeks max.

Q: What is a complete groom?
A: A complete groom consist of a cleansing shampoo, hand or kennel drying, ear cleansing and plucking, anal glands expressed, nails clippedand/or filed, and the hair in the pads of the feet removed, the hair cut of your choice and cologne and bows if requested. A natural flea shampoo is required of all dogs and cats for their protection.

Q: Why do you require proof of vaccination?
A: There have been confirmed cases of rabies on the island and hundreds in the county. This requirement is for all of our customers, their pets and our employees’ protection. We offer a new customer discount coupon for a visit at the veterinarian at Margate animal hospital and always post dates for free rabies clinics in your area. Available in the front store is every thing you should to know about rabies. Ask for a free copy today.

Q: Why is it important for a groomer to be certified and licensed?
A: Don’t you want your pet in the most qualified and competent hands? Anyone can call himself or herself a “pet groomer” but what are their qualifications? Our groomer is a certified “Master Groomer” by The National Dog Groomers Association of America.
